Drum lessons in Williamsburg

Private one-on-one lessons at a studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Whether you are nine or ninety, picking up sticks for the first time or getting ready for auditions, we build a plan around the music you love.

Who it is for

Kids and teens: fundamentals, reading and coordination, taught through songs they actually want to play. Good preparation for school band and auditions.

Adult beginners: start from zero in a relaxed, private setting and be playing along to real songs within weeks.

Serious players: time feel, comping, soloing, reading charts and the practical side of working gigs, including college audition prep.

Your teacher

Aaron Ginns studied with Lenny White and Benny Green and holds a BFA in Jazz Studies from the University of Michigan and a master’s from NYU. He leads the Aaron Ginns Trio, plays drums in the Brooklyn band Lazr Wolf, has performed in more than 20 countries, and once played a drum solo at the North Pole. Lessons draw on what he does every week on real gigs: groove, listening and playing for the music.

How lessons work

Lessons are weekly and in person, in 30-minute or hour sessions depending on age and goals. The studio has a full kit, so sticks and a practice pad at home are plenty to start. The exact address goes out when you book.
