A graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies from the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, Ginns honed his craft as a member of various musical ensembles, rock bands, and as the Drummer for the Michigan Basketball Band. He continued his education at NYU, where he earned a master's degree in Jazz Studies, studying with renowned musicians such as Lenny White, Michael Wolff, Carl Allen, Mike Richmond, Michael Gould, and Benny Green.
